Weekly Contact

Hello there,

Well I hope you had a great Thanksgiving spent with friends and loved ones and enjoying lots of good food.  So, here we go into Advent and Christmas.  Before we get too far, just a reminder: we do need your help, decorating the sanctuary tomorrow, Saturday, November 28th starting at 9:00.  Everyone, of all ages, is welcome and can help in some way.  It is a great way to get into the spirit of the season.

Sunday, of course, kicks off the season of Advent, a season of anticipation and hope; something I think we all need this year.  This year Pastor Beth and I will be focusing on the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and how each one introduces the idea of a Savior coming into the world in a different way.  We will be taking them in the order they were written, rather than the order found in the Bible.  So Beth will begin with Mark this week, then I will follow with Luke, Matthew and finally John.  Beth’s title this week is “Mark: Behold my Messenger,” and her text is Mark 1:1-8.  As is our tradition we open the Advent season celebrating the Lord’s Supper.  The Chancel Choir will be singing at the first service.  In between services, stop by our book fair in the social room.

Other events are coming up that you will want to mark on your calendar.  The Rockwell Chorus will present their Christmas concert on Saturday, December 5, at 1:00 in the sanctuary.  That same afternoon, the youth are offering a “Parents’ Night Out”.  They will watch children, ages 4 to 11, from 3:00 to 8:00, so parents can do some shopping, or just enjoy some time together.  Donations will be accepted to benefit their summer mission trip.

Finally, don’t forget to order your poinsettia in memory or to honor a loved one.  The cost is $15 and the deadline is December 7th.

Stay in One Peace,

Howard
