Weekly Contact- September 7, 2017

Hello there,

Recovery efforts in Texas from Hurricane Harvey are just beginning and here we are looking at Hurricane Irma, threatening Florida.  Last week we collected over $1,300 to the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance fund to help victims of Hurricane Harvey.  Undoubtedly we will be able to contribute to Irma relief efforts through PDA, but we do not have information on that just yet.  In the meantime, we have received word that PDA is short of what they call hygiene kits.  These are supplies they are able to hand out to those in shelters who have lost everything.  The children of our congregation will be putting together these kits over the next few weeks to send into PDA.  We are starting now collecting supplies.  If you would be willing to donate some of these items, we would be very grateful.  Each kit consists of:

1 — hand towel (approximately 16″ x 28″, no fingertip or bath towels)

1 — washcloth

1 — wide-tooth comb (remove from package)

1 — nail clipper (remove from package)

1 — bar of soap (bath size in wrapper)

1 — toothbrush (in original packaging)

10 — Band-Aids® or other adhesive bandage strips

This Sunday we will be returning to our fall schedule with two services.  Our regular service will begin at 9:00, followed by Sunday School at 10:00 and our Synergy service at 11:00.  We are delighted to welcome Brittany Lensing as our new keyboardist player for the praise band.  This week I will be preaching on Matthew 18:15-20.  My sermon title is “Holy Harmony.”

In between services this week, Pastor Beth is giving a presentation in the chapel on her mission trip to Haiti this summer.  Everyone is invited to come and hear about her wonderful experience.

On Sunday afternoon, Craig and Vicki Shadle are inviting everyone from the congregation up to their cabin on Lake Delhi for an open house.  Bring a bag of chips, a pan of brownies or something like that.  Hot dogs, hamburgers and boat rides provided.  If you email me I will send you the address and directions, or you can contact Vicki’s dad, Larry Sloan at [email protected]

Next Wednesday, September 13, LOGOS begins.  We are still looking for some volunteers for a number of different slots.  If you would be willing to help contact Pastor Beth.  We are also trying to fill three deacon positions.  Let me know if you would consider serving in this special way.

Finally, on Saturday, September 16, First Light is having another one of their Potbless events at Marion Christian Church, 1050 McGowan Blvd.  The meal begins at 5:00 with a delicious pulled pork provided.  Bring a dish to pass.  Worship begins at 6:30 with communion.  We had a great time when we hosted a Potbless back in April.  You need to be there if at all possible.

Stay in One Peace,

Howard
