Weekly Contact- September 13, 2018

Hello there,

Well, everyone is back to school.  Another Hawkeye-Cyclone football game is in the record books.  Starbucks is serving pumpkin spice lattes.  You need a blanket to sleep comfortably at night.  We may still turn on the air conditioning during the day, but fall is upon us.

I think spring and fall are the best seasons here in Iowa.  Winter and summer seem to drag on and on, but in the spring and in the fall, everything changes day to day and especially week to week.  There is a sense of anticipation and hope as go through a transition.

There is also a sense of returning to a familiar routine.  Summer vacations are over.  We are back doing all the things we usually do.  And I hope that part of your routine is getting back to worship on a weekly basis.  It is good to see many familiar faces back in church on a Sunday morning.

This week, the Chancel Choir will be singing again in the first service, and our praise team is back for the second.  Pastor Beth is preaching on Mark 8:27-38, an interesting text where Jesus asks the disciples, “Who do people say that I am?”  I will be assisting in worship.  I am doing quite well in my recovery from knee replacement surgery.

Don’t forget Roger Dana’s fascinating lecture series: “My Journey from Physics to Christ.”  It will be at 3:00 on Sunday afternoon.  Don’t worry if you missed last week.  I am sure you will get a lot out of Roger’s fascinating explanation of the universe we live in.

Stay in One Peace,

Howard
