There are some good things happening at church on Sunday. We are kicking off a new adult forum based on a video series entitled “In the Dust of the Rabbi.” It is shot on locations of breathtaking scenery in the Middle East. The videos are written and narrated by teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan and explore what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. The forum will meet in the chapel at around 10:15, between worship services. Tim and Sandy Schneekloth will be leading the discussion time.
Pastor Beth and I are also beginning a new sermon series running through October and November that we are calling “Everyday Heroes.” We all know the wonderful stories of heroes of the faith who parted the seas, killed giants and shut the mouths of lions. But there are many other stories of people who did not do anything extraordinary, but acted with great faith. So for the next seven weeks we will be looking at some of these stories from the Bible. This week my text will be Exodus 18:10-27, the story of a concerned father-in-law. The Chancel Bells will be playing at the first service.
Once again we are doing Socktober. We are collecting socks to be distributed at Marion Cares’ Trunk or Treat event on October 23rd and 24th. The deadline to bring socks of all kinds to church is Sunday, October 15th.
Finally, mark your calendars now. Saturday, October 28th at 7:00 in our sanctuary we will be having a concert by the Cedar Lake Seven. They are a men’s gospel group from Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. They have been with us twice before and are excellent with a wonderful repertoire. Chas Nove, who grew up in our church, is a member. They will be presenting a concert on Saturday night and in worship on Sunday morning, the 29th. There is no charge at the concert, but an offering will be taken to benefit hurricane relief efforts. You won’t want to miss it.
Stay in One Peace,
