Weekly Contact- November 19, 2015

Hello there,

It is the time of year when things start getting really busy.  It will be a great time in worship on Sunday.  It is Christ the King Sunday and the youth will be leading in both services.  Middle School youth and 3rd through 5th graders will be providing special music in the first service and we will be welcoming new members.  Pastor Beth will be preaching on John 18:33-37.  Her sermon title is “Not from This World.”

That would be exciting enough, but we are pleased that the Rev. Andrew Smothers will be with us.  Many of you remember Andy who was our seminary intern 2012-13.  For the last two years Andy has literally been all over the world, although most of his time was spent in east Africa.  He will be sharing some of his experiences between services.  He really has had quite an adventure, so you don’t want to miss this.

This is the season when we could really use your help.  First off, we will be packing boxes for Operation Christmas Child this coming Saturday at 1:00 in the social room.  We are grateful for all the contributions over the year, but now it is time to put it all together.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

We will be decorating the sanctuary for Advent on the next Saturday morning, November 28th at 9:00.  Helping hands of all ages are welcome as we get our church ready for our Advent and Christmas celebrations.  With enough people we are done very quickly and it really gets you in the holiday spirit.

Finally, there is not much call for swaddling clothes in this day, but babies always need diapers.  As a Crowbar Project the mission committee is launching a diaper drive to collect disposable diapers for our Helping Hands clothing distribution.  If you have not checked out the price of a box of diapers recently, you might be shocked.  I certainly was when I went to get some for my granddaughter.  This can be a real hardship for struggling families.  So, if you can pick up a box next time you are in the story, that would be great, or make a donation in the “diaper boxes” in the back of the church.  The mission committee will match up to $100 for money that is donated.

Thank you for your generosity.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving and stay in One Peace,
