Hello there,
WE NEED YOUR HELP! We have scheduled a clean-up day, Saturday morning at 9:00, to pick up leaves and debris around the church grounds and get everything ready for winter. Many hands make light work, so if you all show up we should be done very quickly. If it is raining or snowing, we will reschedule for Saturday the 22nd.
Don’t forget, tomorrow night, Friday the 14th, the Joyful Noises concert at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. A number of talented local musicians will be preforming including Young at Harp. Our Nancy Jennings is a member of this Celtic harp ensemble. There is no admission, but a free will offering will be taken. And there will be a silent auction of goodie baskets and other items. This is all to benefit Family Promise, a ministry that provides assistance to families who are homeless.
Sunday morning the Chancel Bells and the Cherub Choir will be providing special music in the first service. My text is the verses following last week’s; Matthew 25:14-30, the parable of the talents. My sermon title is “Burial Plot.”
Following the first service there will be a congregational meeting to elect elders and deacons. This should begin at around 10:00, so if you usually come to the second service, come early for the meeting. For elders, Paul Draper is being reelected. John Foster, Doug Gardner, Scott Schaub have all been nominated, and Melanie Bogert is willing to serve as a youth elder. Angie O’Conner, Judie Henderson, Joan West, and Ann Klaassen are willing to serve as deacons. We are grateful to these individuals for being open to God’s call to serve and thank you to the Nominating Committee for their hard work.
Following the congregational meeting there will be a pancake brunch served up by the youth. Proceeds will benefit their summer mission trip. So, if you do usually come to the second service, skip breakfast, come to the congregational meeting and then enjoy some pancakes before worship.
Finally, if you have not done so already, time is running out to sign up to have your picture taken for our new directory. We will start taking pictures a week from today on the 20th. Many slots are already filled. You can sign up by clicking here and going to our website, or by contacting Shirley Pantini.
Stay in one Peace,
Howard
