A lot of people have a busy weekend coming up. Both Marion Independent and Linn-Mar High Schools will be having their graduation ceremonies on Sunday afternoon, and congratulations to all who are graduating!
It is a holiday weekend, and many are celebrating with picnics and family get-togethers. Of course, the holiday is Memorial Day, and we do remember an honor those who served our country, especially those who made the supreme sacrifice.
Sunday is a busy day at church. We will be shifting into our summer schedule with only one service at 9:00. There will be no children or youth Sunday School, but the two adult classes will continue meeting.
We will be welcoming in new members, which is always a wonderful thing to do. We will also be honoring our longtime members. We have more than fifty individuals who have been members of FPC for at least 50 years. Seventeen people have been members for more than 60 years. Two ladies joined the same year in 1943, which means they have been members for 71 years. One is May Wynia, who joined as an adult and last January celebrated her 108th birthday. The other is Mary Mann, who joined with her confirmation class when she was a young girl. We thank God for those who have been part of the family of faith known as First Presbyterian Church of Marion.
Todd Schendel will be playing his trombone for special music. Todd has such a sweet mellow sound and it is always great to hear him play. The text for this Sunday is 1 Peter 3:13-22. My sermon title is “Is That Clear?”
Have a great weekend and stay in One Peace,
