This week will be our last Sunday with two services until September. So it will also be the last Sunday when the Chancel Choir sings, and the Chancel Bells play. It is also the last Sunday School as we take a summer break. We want to say a big THANK YOU! to all who have been a part of our music and education ministries during this last year. You do far more than you can possibly imagine, leading in worship and spiritual growth.
The Sunday after Pentecost is traditionally Trinity Sunday, when we focus on the doctrine of the trinity. I am always reminded of Martin Luther’s statement: “To doubt the doctrine of the trinity is to put your soul in peril. To try to understand the doctrine of the trinity is to put your sanity in peril.” So if anyone has a neat, sane explanation of the trinity, could you please get it to me as soon as possible? I don’t know if I can shed much light on the trinity, but I will be preaching on Proverbs 8:1-4, 23-31, and my sermon title is “Working Wisdom.”
Judy and I will also be celebrating our 40th anniversary this Sunday. As we have said, thank you, but no cards or gifts. If you would like to do something for us, please bring a towel or washcloth for the Helping Hands storeroom. It does not have to be new, just in good condition. Come down to the social room following the first service, enjoy a cupcake and a cup of coffee, and sign our wedding guest book from 40 years ago.
With summer upon us, please remember we will be involved in the FLY program, Feeding Lunch to Youth. We will be making and distributing lunches on Wednesdays throughout the summer. We will be collecting juice boxes, and there is a sign-up sheet in the social room.
We have had some wonderful volunteers sign up to mow the church lawn. Thank you! We could use some more. There is a sign-up sheet in the social room for this as well.
Stay in One Peace,
