Hello there,
Do you remember our mission statement? If you don’t then ask a member of the confirmation class. That is something we go over on a regular basis in class. But if it has slipped your mind, I will remind you. It is: Internally nurturing, Externally serving. We all should be doing both. So if you feel like you have let this slip I have two wonderful opportunities for you.
If you would like to do some nurturing internally, we are looking for some help for Vacation Bible School. Yes, it is that time again. It will be June 4—8, from 5:30 to 7:30 each evening beginning with dinner for everyone. Our theme this year is “Superhero Central: Heroes of the Bible”. We are looking for help with recreation, teaching science activities or Bible stories. If none of those slots seem like a good fit to you, but you still would like to help, contact Pastor Beth. I am sure she can find something for you to do. There is a sign up sheet in the social room.
If you would like to do some serving externally, Family Promise ministry is starting up again. John Derryberry, their new director, led a very helpful training session last night. We are teaming up with Echo Hill Presbyterian Church. The guests will be staying out at that church, but we are looking for help with preparing meals, hosting the families in the evening and staying overnight. Again there is a sign up sheet in the social room. If you are interested but were unable to attend the training session, contact Pastor Beth. She can go over the basic information with you.
It is Mother’s Day on Sunday, so if you can I hope you do something nice for your mom. It is fitting then, that we have the Chancel Bell Choir playing on Sunday. This will be the last time they play before the summer break. My sermon text is John 15:9-17. The title is “Free Range Disciples.”
Stay in One Peace,
Howard
