Hello there,
The Praise Team from our Synergy service will be providing the music this week, which is Trinity Sunday. The subject of the Trinity is a challenge for any preacher. So I have decided to try to make it as simple as possible, getting back to the basics. My text is probably familiar to you, Genesis 1:1-2:4a. My sermon title is “In the Beginning… GOD.”
It is just a little more than a week until our big celebration for our 175th anniversary. Again, just to remind you, we are having an outdoor worship service at 610 10th St. in Marion, across the street from Marion Square Park. This is the site of our original church building. We will worship in back of the current building that houses the Sheets, Forest and Draper insurance agency. A section of the back wall of the building is part of that original building. So bring your lawn chair and enjoy a great time of worship with a bluegrass gospel group called Castle Ridge. Following the worship service there will be a barbecue picnic over at the Depot Pavilion. In case of rain we will be worshipping in the Depot.
We anticipate the new t-shirts will be available this Sunday. We thought they would be available last week, but ran into a snag. Other preparations are being made. We are having a planning meeting tonight (June 8th) at 6:30 if you would like to join us. We are trying to get a handle on how much food to prepare, so that is why we are asking you to sign a ticket when you come to church on Sunday. We will be using these tickets in a drawing for one of my watercolor paintings at the picnic. Everything is provided at the picnic, including table service. There is no charge, but we will be accepting donations to help cover the costs.
Vacation Bible School begins next week. Once again we are teaming up with Echo Hill Presbyterian Church and the staff at Camp Wyoming. It is certain to be a great time for our young people.
We still need some help on Wednesdays this summer with the FLY program. Contact Pastor Beth if you can help.
Stay in One Peace,
Howard
