Weekly contact- June 22, 2018

Hello there,

Summer officially began yesterday, although it has felt like summer for about a month now.  Someone once said that a prefect summer day is when the sun is shining, the humidity is low, a breeze is blowing, the birds are singing and the lawn mower is broken.

We have a good worship service planned for Sunday.  Gary Kent will be singing a solo and that is always a treat. Pastor Beth is preaching on 1st Samuel 17, the wonderful story of David and Goliath.  Her sermon title is “Conquering Heroes”.

Mark your calendar now for Saturday, July 7, from 4:00 to 7:00 when Marion Cares and the Marion Community Churches will present Uplift Uptown in Marion Square Park.  Worship and live music will be provided by local church teams.  There will be family activities, free food and drinks.  We will be providing some of the beverages.  If you would like to contribute to the cost of those drinks, make a check out to FPC with “beverage purchases” in the memo line.

Finally, I am very grateful for all the cards, sympathetic thoughts and prayers many of you have given as we deal with my father passing away last week.  I spent a good share of this week with my mother and she is doing very well.  We will be going back down to Cincinnati the end of next week for his celebration of life service on June 30th.  Some have been asking about making a donation in his honor, which is so very kind.  A memorial designated for social justice has been established in his honor at his church (College Hill Presbyterian).  Contributions can be made through FPC, if you just make a note that it is a memorial for Chappie.  And, again, thank you so much for all your condolences.

Stay in One Peace,

Howard
