Weekly Contact-June 2

Hello everyone, this is Pastor Beth

Last Friday was Marion Independent’s last day of school, yesterday was Linn Mar’s and today is Cedar Rapids last day.  I know that when I say “last day” I am talking about the kids, the teachers still have some days left but it reminded me of the 1972 classic song, School’s Out for Summer by Alice Cooper.  So I hope everyone, students and teachers, will enjoy a wonderful summer.  But with the end of school comes some exciting and fun opportunities at the church.

There are several ways to help our FLY program this summer.  Each year we take Wednesdays to make and deliver lunches.  You can sign up in the social hall or you can now go right to Volunteer Spot using vols.pt/flywed16  We still need 2 folks each to deliver to Eagle Ridge, Squaw Creek, Chapel Ridge, and Living Water beginning June 8th.  If you have questions about FLY please let me know.  We are also collecting juice boxes for the lunches the next two weeks.  So the next time you are at the grocery store pick up a pack and bring them to the church.  And to top it off next Sunday June 12 we are hosting a FLY benefit concert.  Young at Harp and Deep Dish Divas will be performing at 2:00pm here in the sanctuary.  A good will offering will be taken at intermission.  If Wednesday’s don’t work with your schedule there are other days you can volunteer.  In fact, tomorrow they are looking for people to help deliver lunches.  If you are able to help please go to vols.pt/flyfri16 and sign up as soon as possible.

Another great opportunity this summer is our Vacation Bible School.  We have partnered with Echo Hill Presbyterian Church and Camp Wyoming and have a good group of children signed up to participate.  But we do need a few more volunteers to help out and assist the Camp Wyoming counselors.  It is from 8:30-3:30 starting Monday June 13th  at Echo Hill.  If you can come and help, even if it’s just for a day or two, please email me and let me know as soon as possible.  It is a fun experience even for the adults.

This Sunday is an exciting one.  We are honoring and celebrating our graduating High School seniors.  They will be receiving their quilt and sharing their plans with us.  It is also a Youth Sunday and Carolyn Hayes is playing her trumpet for our special music.  So come and celebrate with us as the youth lead our service.  I will be preaching on Romans 12:9-21 from The Message and my sermon title is “Love from the Center”.
