Hello there,
Father’s Day is coming up this weekend. I recently came across this quip: “I gave my father $100 and said, ‘Buy yourself something that will make your life easier.’ So he went out and bought a present for my mother.” But then I believe it was Mark Twain who said this: “When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant, I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”
Whether or not you still have your dad with you I will bet that he would like it if you came to church this Sunday. And it will be worth it. Karen Pierce is playing her dulcimer and that is always a sweet sound. I am preaching on Romans 5:1-5 and my sermon title is “Peace of Mind.”
Following worship, we will be having “Strawberries ‘n More” hosted by the Navigators. So come and enjoy some strawberries, ice cream and other yummy things to eat. Because of this event, there will be no Coffee Chats meeting this week.
Peg Heald will be giving a minute for mission about volunteers for FLY (Feeding Lunch to Youth). This wonderful ministry began this week as we join with other churches and pack and deliver lunches to hundreds of hungry children here in Marion. We do need some more volunteers. Peg will have a sign up sheet on Sunday.
Summer is a time when many go out of town on vacation. Please do what you can to keep up or get ahead on your financial commitment to the church. Often we experience cash flow strains during the summer months.
Finally, mark your calendar and save the date. There will be an open house on Saturday, July 27, from 2:00 to 5:00 as we celebrate my upcoming retirement. And we are looking for pictures of my ministry over the years. So if I officiated at a wedding in your family, or at a baptism, or you somehow got a great shot of me at some event, please scan them and send them to me, or bring them by the church office.
Stay in One Peace,
Howard
