Weekly Contact- June 1, 2017

Hello there!

WEAR RED! WEAR RED! WEAR RED!  It is Pentecost Sunday coming up, so wear something red.  It will be a good Sunday.  The Rainbow Bells will be playing, and you can even join them if you like.  Pastor Beth is preaching on John 20:19-23 and her sermon title is “Getting Your Second Wind.”  We will be celebrating the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and Sam Raiche will be singing a solo.

The FLY Benefit concert will be Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in our sanctuary.  Two very talented musical groups will be performing.  Young at Harp is a Celtic harp ensemble that has performed for us on a number of occasions.  Lily Wren is a group featuring different types of instruments that plays Celtic and Finnish tunes.  It is sure to be very entertaining and there is no admission charge, however a free will offering will be collected and donated to the Feeding Lunch to Youth program.

Speaking of FLY, we are still looking for volunteers to deliver lunches starting next Wednesday.  You can sign up in the social hall or contact Pastor Beth.  And we are still collecting packs of juice boxes.  So far we have 111, which is great.  But our goal has been 175 packs to celebrate out 175th anniversary.

We are getting close to the big celebration day, and the new 175th t-shirts should be available this Sunday.  If you haven’t heard already, we will be worshiping on June 18th, at 10:00 at the site of the original Presbyterian church, on the lawn behind the Sheets, Forrest and Draper Insurance Agency, across from Marion Square Park.  Following the worship service, we will be having a barbecue picnic over at the Depot Pavilion.  There is no charge or sign up for the picnic, but we are asking you to get a ticket beforehand just so we can get an idea of how much food we will need.  Hang on to your tickets, because at the picnic there will be a drawing for one of my watercolor paintings.

There has been some concern about those who are a bit unsteady on their feet, walking across the lawn and bringing lawn chairs to sit on.  The north side of 6th Ave will be designated handicap parking and people may put their chairs on the sidewalk.  But we will also have a team of able body helpers to assist where needed.  If you are willing and able to be one of those helpers, there will be a sign up at the back of the sanctuary for the next two Sundays.

Finally, the June edition of the First Press is out.  You can pick up a paper copy at various locations around the church building, or you can download a pdf copy by clicking here.

Stay in One Peace,
