Weekly Contact- July 24, 2014

Hello there,

Everybody sing:

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

In the middle of July!

This Sunday we will be having some fun celebrating Christmas in July.  We will have a delicious Christmas brunch following worship, with delicious food, holiday decorations and Christmas cookies, of course.  So come hungry and make a jolly donation to help benefit Operation Christmas Child.

And don’t miss worship!  The youth will be leading in the service reporting on their recent mission trip to Red Lake, MN.  Sam Raiche will be providing the special music.

It is hard to believe but this is the last Sunday in July, which means school will be starting before too long.  Once again we will be helping Marion Cares by donating fully supplied backpacks for children in our community who are in need of assistance.  If you would like to sponsor a child, stop at the table in the Social Hall where you will find instructions and a school supply list.  Please have supplies returned to the church by Sunday, August 3.

Finally, I told you a few weeks ago about Ralph Cortez, one of our elders serving on Session and the Building and Grounds committee.  He was on the swim team in high school and college.  Two years ago he got back into serious competitive swimming, and has really enjoyed getting back into shape and pushing himself as far as he can.  On Saturday, Ralph will be involved in the “Swim Across America” to raise money to fight cancer.  He will be swimming three miles in Lake Michigan and his goal was to raise at least $500.  He has already surpassed that goal, but is encouraging more donations.  Ralph is dedicating his swim to the memory of another of FPC’s elders, Dave Mabee, who lost his battle to cancer last January.  You can find out more about Ralph’s swim by clicking here.

Stay in One Peace,

Howard
