Weekly Contact- July 12, 2018
Hello there,
Our middle school youth will be leaving Friday afternoon for a weekend mission trip up to nearby Waterloo. They will be staying and worshiping at the First Presbyterian Church. On Saturday they will be working with the elderly and at a local food bank. They will be back on Sunday evening. Please keep them in your prayers for a safe and meaningful time.
On Sunday, Isaac Langley will be singing a solo, and Jim Langley, his father, will be assisting in worship. I will be starting a four-week sermon series on the Letter to the Ephesians with the theme “One in Christ.” This week my text will be Ephesians 1:1-14 and my title is “One in Christ: Chosen.”
A week from Sunday on July 22nd we will be having our annual “Christmas in July Brunch.” This will follow worship down in the social room. We will be having pastries, breakfast casseroles and Christmas cookies. This is sponsored by the Membership and Mission committees and we are asking for a free will donation to help out with Operation Christmas Child.
And, yes, the weather is reminding us that it is the middle of summer but it is time to start thinking about helping out Marion Cares with their school backpack project. Needy children in our community need help with school supplies. FPC has been assigned 25 flyers each with an individual list that is age and gender appropriate. If you could take a flyer on Sunday, buy a backpack and fill it with the supplies on that list, that would be great. I have been there when they have handed out those backpacks and you cannot believe kids can be so excited about going back to schools.
Finally, mark your calendar for Sunday, August 5th. After worship we will be heading over to Hanna Park for an all church picnic. Meat will be provided but bring a dish to pass. More information will be coming.
Stay in One Peace,
Howard
