Hello there,
Sunday will be a bitter-sweet day as we say good-bye to our worship music coordinator, Laurel Klinkenberg. For 22 years, Laurel has directed the Chancel Choir, led the Praise Team for the Synergy service, and supervised the music that enriched our worship services so much. Now she has accepted the position as the Vice-president of Instruction at John A. Logan College in Carterville, IL. It is sad to see her go, but we wish her all the best in this exciting new opportunity.
Following worship on Sunday, we will have a reception to honor Laurel. Please join us and thank her for her years of dedication to the life and ministry of FPC Marion. We are asking everyone who might have been touched by some piece of music or something else that Laurel has done to bring a note or card and leave it in the basket at the reception. If you are not able to be in church on Sunday, you may drop your note off or mail it in to the office. We will make sure she gets it. I know that your thoughts and good wishes will be very meaningful to her.
In worship on Sunday, I will be preaching on Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23. It is a familiar parable of Jesus, the story of the Sower and the Seeds. My sermon title is “What a Waste!” Annitta Parrish will be singing a solo, which is sure to be lovely.
Finally, we want to send out a big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our Feeding Lunch to Youth apple campaign. We were collecting money to buy apples for the FLY lunches. Our goal was $500. The last I heard we had received more than $900. Your generosity is feeding hungry children here in Marion and we are very grateful.
Stay in One Peace,
Howard
