Weekly Contact– January 12, 2017

Hello there,

Well, it has been about two weeks, so how are you coming on your New Year’s resolutions?  Someone once said that a New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.  Here at the FPC office we have been working on the annual report for the upcoming congregational meeting on January 19th.  (Hint: Those of you who are heads of committees and organizations need to get your reports in if you haven’t already done so.)  These annual reports are a good chance to look back on the year, as well as looking forward to what lies ahead.  And maybe some resolutions are made to try to do better next year.

This coming Sunday the text I will be preaching on will be 1st Corinthians 1:1-9.  If you read through Paul’s entire letter you will see that it is something like our annual reports in that it gives us an assessment of how the church at Corinth was doing at that particular moment.  The fact is they were not doing very well.  Yet, Paul begins his letter by saying “I give thanks to my God for you…”  I will be exploring why he says that in my sermon.  The Chancel Choir will be singing in the first service.  I hope you will be able to join us.

Stay in One Peace,

Howard
