We have a great Sunday this week! What better way to get into the spirit of the season than with brass and bells! Once again Bob Roussell has pulled together a brass ensemble and they will be playing Christmas carols for the Prelude and Offertory. And the Chancel Bells are back and will be playing in the special music slot. Our handbells were sent off for a few months to undergo much needed maintenance, tuning, and repairs. This was done with money from a gift of the Carol Jansen estate. I will be preaching on Matthew 1:18-25 and my sermon title is “What’s in a Name?”
We be having our annual Cookie Walk in between services. The youth will be baking all sorts of holiday goodies on Saturday, and you can put together your own box for a gift or to enjoy yourself. Your generous donation will be gratefully accepted and will go towards the middle school mission trip to Chicago and the senior high trip to Oklahoma.
On Sunday evening the children will put on their Christmas Program in the sanctuary. It will be at 6:00 and followed by a Soup and Sweet supper down in the social room. We will provide the soup, but we are asking you to provide the sweet and bring a dessert to share. It will be great fun.
We hope you are having fun putting together your Advent-in-reverse calendar. If you do not want to wait until Christmas to bring in your items, you may do so at any time. There is a box to collect your donations in the social room. We are grateful for your generosity and please note that the items listed on those sticker sheets are meant to be a suggestion. If you are unable to get some of those various items but could supply some others, anything you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, what could you do with $33.00? Buy a tank of gas, lunch for two, or a man’s dress shirt, perhaps. But $33.00 is the amount we pay for each member of the congregation to the Presbyterian Church (USA) for the ongoing mission and administration of our denomination. We have 443 members, so we owe $14,619 for 2016. So far this year we have collected almost $5,940, or enough for 180 members. Have you paid your per capita for 2016? If not, is there any way you could get that in before the end of the year? If you have, would you consider going the extra mile and perhaps paying for someone else? A little bit would make a huge difference in reducing our deficit budget and ending the year in the black.
Stay in One Peace,
