You need to be in church the Sunday before Christmas. That is a given. It will be a good one this week. Judy Chapman and Sharon Colton have two piano-organ duets planned. The Chancel Choir will be singing three pieces. I will be preaching the last of our Advent sermon series on the four gospels and each one’s interpretation on how Jesus came into this world. This week we will focus on the Gospel of John. The text is John 1:1-14 and the title is “Light Shines in the Darkness.”
Following the first service there will be congregational meeting for the purpose of electing officers. I am very happy to announce that we do have a full slate. Nominated to serve three-year terms as Elder are Kathy Bogert, Roger Dana, Don McDill and Marta Pumroy. Charlie Knudsen is nominated to fill a one year slot due to a resignation and Maya Deuso is nominated for the one year youth elder position. For Deacons, nominated for three year terms are Cathy and Denny Bossard, Carlos and Dian Boysen, Carl Foster and Kathryn Kraut. Sue Kelly has been nominated to fill a one year slot due to a resignation.
At 6:00 on Sunday the 20th, we will be having a Blue Christmas service. While the Christmas season is a wonderful time many look forward to, it can also be painful for some. It may be the first Christmas without a dear family member who has recently died or it may be a time that has always been difficult. Join with us in sharing and hearing prayers, scripture, and music that acknowledge that God’s presence is for those who mourn, for those who struggle, and that God’s Word comes to shine light into our darkness. This is not just for members of FPC. If you know of someone who would benefit from such a service, be sure to invite them. If you need a ride, let the office know.
Finally, just a reminder, we will have our usually Family Service on Christmas Eve at 5:00 and our Candlelight Communion Service at 7:00.
Stay in One Peace,
