Weekly Contact- December 15, 2016

Hello there,

As it is clear that winter is fully upon us, let me remind you again of our bad weather policy at FPC Marion.  The pastor and the organist have 4-wheel drive vehicles, but can walk to church if necessary.  Therefore, we do not cancel Sunday morning worship.  We will be here.  That being said, if you think the weather is too bad or too cold, by all means STAY HOME!  You are an adult and can make that decision for yourself.  We do cancel Wednesday night activities if the Linn-Mar school district has a snow day.  Driving at night is far more treacherous than on a Sunday morning.

This coming Sunday, the Chancel Choir will be presenting the cantata “Morning Star” in the first service.  It is a beautiful retelling of the Christmas story in song and verse.  I know you will enjoy it. There will be a reception following the first service, honoring Karen Greene and Barb Bjork who have served on our church staff for 30 and 20 years respectively.    Please be sure to tell them how much you appreciate their hard work and dedication.  The 11:00 Synergy worship service will be Lessons and Carols.

Next Wednesday at 6:30 we will be having a Blue Christmas service.  This is a time recognizing that the holidays can be especially difficult for those who are struggling with grief and loss.  It is a service of music, readings and prayers, to support one another and to remind ourselves of Emmanuel; God is with us, especially when there is darkness in our lives.

Christmas Eve services will be at 5:00 and 7:00.  We will have one casual worship service down in the social room at 9:00 on Christmas morning.  Come in pajamas, if you like.  Bring your Advent-in-reverse items.  We will sort them and take them over to the Food Pantry.  We will have one service on New Year’s day, but that will be at 11:00.

May you be safe and well over the next few weeks.  If you are traveling, may God’s protection go with you.

Stay in One Peace,

Howard
