I would like to begin by expressing my heartfelt thanks for the wonderful reception last week, for all the cards and good wishes, and for the very generous gift, celebrating my 20 years serving as your pastor and my 60th birthday. It is my understanding that many of you contributed and that means so much to me. But beyond anything tangible I am so grateful for the deep love all this celebration represents. We have been through a lot over the years, laughter and tears, frustrating challenges and some significant accomplishments, and it has only strengthened the affection and respect we have for each other. I am so very blessed.
We have a busy weekend coming up. On Saturday, the kitchen will be humming with activity and filled with good smells. The youth will be making stacks and stacks of cookies for their Cookie Walk on Sunday. So come to church ready to buy some delicious Christmas goodies. Proceeds will benefit the youth’s summer mission trip.
We are continuing our Advent theme of “Telling the New/Old Story” on Sunday morning. At the first service Megan England, Nicole Theis, the Rainbow Bells, and the 3rd-5th grade singers will all be providing special music. My text is Isaiah 61:1-4, 8 & 9 and my sermon title is “Open the Door.”
The children and youth will present an absolutely wonderful Christmas program, Sunday evening at 6:00. Following the program you are invited to a “soup and sweet” supper in the social room. We will be providing soup and we are asking everyone to bring some sort of sweet, yummy desert to share.
Next Thursday, we will be providing soup and sandwiches to the clients of our Food Pantry, starting at 12:30. If you would like to help out with this, contact Nancy Williams.
We need Advent Candle lighters at both services for the following Sunday of December 21st and at the Christmas Eve services. If you can help contact one of the pastors or the church office.
Finally, I am still looking for stories of a special Christmas in your life for the Christmas Eve service. I have some very good ones, but I could use a few more. Let me know.
Stay in One Peace,
