Weekly Contact- April 3, 2014

Hello there,

First off, thank you to all who are helping this week with Family Promise!  You are making a difference in the lives of people, especially children, who need to know someone cares about them.

Come to church on Sunday, hungry!  Between services the youth will be putting on one of their delicious pancake breakfasts.  So plan on filling your plate with some yummy sticky goodness and make a hefty donation to support our teens.

This will be the last Sunday in Lent so we are finishing up on our “Give It Up For Lent” sermon series.  This week, I will be preaching on Ezekiel 37:1-14, the story of the dry bones.  “Give up on giving up,” is my sermon title.  The Chancel Choir will be singing at the first service.

To get ready for Holy Week, the Building and Grounds committee is having a clean-up event, Wednesday, April 9th at 5:30, here at the church.  We just need a little help with brooms, rakes and shovels, to clean up the sand and debris, left over from winter.  We would really appreciate it if you could stop by for a while and help get the grounds ready for the upcoming holy days.  If it rains, we will meet on Saturday morning, April 12th at 9:00.

On Palm Sunday, April 13, we will be having a guest preacher at our worship services. Rodney Bluml is the Program Coordinator and a Spiritual Director at Prairiewoods Spirituality Center in Hiawatha. Rodney will be preaching using some of the artwork from the St. John’s Bible.   If you don’t know what the St. John’s Bible is, be sure to come on Palm Sunday to see and listen as Rodney shares God’s Word with us.

Easter is just a little more than two weeks away.  We will be having our Easter Party and Egg hunt on Saturday, April 19th.

Finally, we will be celebrating Holy Hilarity Sunday the week after Easter on April 27. There is an article about it in the First Press.  (Click here, if you would like to look over the First Press again)  There will be prayers, scripture and a sermon as usual. But there will also be a time for telling jokes. So get ready to tell your favorite, or write it out and send it to one of the pastors and we will tell it. Funny hats and clothing are appropriate for that Sunday.  Join us as we laugh and enjoy God’s goodness and love.

In the meantime, stay in One Peace,
