On Sunday afternoon at 2:00 there will be some sweet, sweet sounds in our sanctuary. There will be a concert featuring two talented musical groups. First, Young at Harp will be playing. They are a Celtic harp ensemble with a repertoire of folk, traditional, sacred and classic music. Our Nancy Jennings plays in this group. Then the Deep Dish Divas will be performing. They are a trio that their FaceBook page describes as offering an “eclectic mix of vintage novelties, folk, swing, traditional, a cappella and more.” Our Karen Pierce plays the hammer dulcimer and guitar in this group.
An offering will be collected at this concert and the proceeds will benefit FLY (Feeding Lunch to Youth). As you probably know, this program provides bag lunches during vacations in neighborhoods where many children are in the subsidized lunch programs at school. For many of these children, if they don’t eat at school, they don’t eat at all. The FLY lunches are all packed and distributed by volunteers and really make a difference in our community. So come to the concert, enjoy the music, but dig deep and give generously to support a worthy cause.
Of course, just because there will be some heavenly music on Sunday afternoon, that doesn’t mean you should skip worship on Sunday morning. The Chancel Choir will be singing at the first service and I will be preaching on 1st John 3:1-7. My sermon title will be “Family Matters.”
Stay in One Peace,
