Good Afternoon,
Well, Howard and Judy are on their vacation and are no doubt having a wonderful time with family. So, it is up to me as your Assoc. pastor to write the weekly contact.
School is fast approaching. Next week Linn Mar and Marion start back and Cedar Rapids the following week. Going back to school is both an exciting and anxious time. I was always ready to see all my friends again but I worried about who of my friends would be in my class and what they were having for lunch. So there are lots of mixed emotions about going to school whether it is kindergarten or college. And it isn’t just the kids who have these feelings…the parents too are ready for school to start but nervous at the same time. Well with the start of school also comes the start of church programs like Sunday School, High School Youth Group, and Logos. So just like you at home the church is also gearing up once again.
Also coming up is a women’s retreat. Us, First Presbyterian in Mt. Vernon, and Seeds of Faith Lutheran are coming together for a day of laughter. Laughing Laura, a Lutheran pastor, is going to be leading us in how to laugh more. It is going to take place on Sep. 14 at Camp Wyoming and will be fun and meaningful. Registration forms are in the social hall and you can turn them into the office and if you have any questions just let me know.
This Sunday I’m preaching on Matthew 25:31-46. The focus will be on the mission trip the middle schoolers took on Aug. 8th and 9th with Feed My Starving Children. The Rainbow Bells will be playing as the special music. So…if you are in town this weekend come to worship and bring your children and grandchildren and participate in this Sun. music.
Next Sun. several members of the church will be sharing their hobbies with us after worship. You will not want to miss this…perhaps you may be inspired by their passion. Also, bring your loose change to worship because we are having a noisy offering.
These are exciting times and I want to send my blessings to all those who are starting school.
Blessings,
Beth
