Souper Bowl of Caring began in 1990 at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina. The pastor prayed, ”Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl Game, help us to be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat.” That year 22 churches raised $5,700 to put back in their communities. The number of groups involved has steadily grown each year.
Our community needs our help as the number of families struggling to put food on the table continues to grow. FPC has asked eight area churches to participate in a friendly competition to support the Churches of Marion Food Pantry by collecting soup. Soup and cash donations will be accepted until Super Bowl Sunday, February 9. Your participation is appreciated.
