Pastoral Letter #16

Dear Members and Friends,

I write to tell you that Session has accepted Paul Holstein’s resignation as Choir Director at First Presbyterian Church effective April 30, 2020. This is a major loss to our congregation. He has served First Presbyterian Church with devotion and love in many roles for a long time.

There will be an opportunity to show our love and respect for Paul at a reception that will be scheduled as soon as we are able to use our building again. You are invited to contribute to a gift for Paul as we thank God for his presence and ministry among us.

Several people have written to mention grocery shopping and delivery services. One example is StudentsServingSeniors… which provides same-day service for orders received before 2 p.m. for $1.50.  Each of the three major grocers provide similar service, but phone waiting times are as much as one and one-half hours and webpage information is difficult to navigate. If you have found a better way to access these services, let me know so I can send this information to everyone.

We need people to volunteer as TechAdvisors, that is, people who are willing to help others (via a telephone call) to learn how to connect to Zoom. For some people, computer use is as simple as walking. For others, computers are frustrating and impossible. TechAdvisors will help this second group so that everyone who wants to connect via Zoom will be successful. Let me know if you’re willing to help as a TechAdvisor.

Psalm 18:1-6

He said: I love you, Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my solid rock,
my fortress, my rescuer.
My God is my rock—
I take refuge in him!—
he’s my shield,
my salvation’s strength,
my place of safety.
3 Because he is praiseworthy,
I cried out to the Lord,
and I was saved from my enemies.
4 Death’s cords were wrapped around me;
rivers of wickedness terrified me.
5 The cords of the grave surrounded me;
death’s traps held me tight.
6 In my distress I cried out to the Lord;
I called to my God for help.
God heard my voice from his temple;
I called to him for help,
and my call reached his ears.

With gratitude,
