Welcome to The Diary of a Mad Pastor! This is the first of what I hope will be many timely thoughts and insights into the Christian faith today. I am no expert in religion, theology, or the Christian faith. Even though I’m a pastor, sometimes I have just as many doubts and questions as everybody else. I think that’s why I’m starting this blog…to give voice to some of those so we can seek answers together.
As far as the name of the blog, I’ll let you make the decision once you read it if I’m just the old guy yelling, “Get off my lawn” at the state of the church today, or whether I’m really just a little crazy…although some might say it’s more than a little. And I definitely have my “Hulk Smash” kind of days.
My hope is this blog will give me a place to be open and honest, so that maybe you find a kindred spirit or some hope for your journey. Sometimes, it feels like the world today is on the fast track to disaster. How do we keep the faith and grow in our relationship with Jesus when it would be easier to just close down the church and walk away? How do we proclaim the good news of Jesus when Christian nationalism, political division, and social unrest are the leading news stories?
I’m going to try and publish new content every week, but as the pastor of a growing church, husband to a wife I love spending time with, and the dad 2 college kids and a high school sophomore who’s involved in everything music and drama related…this might be where the madness comes from…that may not be possible. But I will do my best.
I’ll be writing about religion, the Bible, what I think it means to follow Jesus, why I think the church needs to change, and, I guess, life in general. I hope you enjoy it and you find what you need to keep going. The journey is long…but the destination is worth it!
