We have some exciting news! When you come to church on Sunday you will notice something different in the pews. We have recently acquired the new Presbyterian hymnal Glory to God. You may have noticed that some of the blue hymnals were getting rather worn and tattered. We have had them for over 20 years and they are starting to show their age. About every 25 years the PCUSA publishes a new hymnal. Glory to God is the latest version commissioned by the 2013 General Assembly. It includes a nice variety of traditional hymns, spiritual songs of the global Christian community, praise and worship music, spirituals, gospel songs and several beloved hymns that have not been in a Presbyterian hymnal before.
This has all been possible because of some substantial gifts from a few individuals and we are so very grateful for their thoughtful generosity. If necessary we may use some of our memorial funds to cover additional costs. But if you would like dedicate one or more hymnals to a loved one with a printed bookplate inside the cover, you may do so with a suggested donation of $20 per hymnal.
We will continue to use the old blue hymnal as well because it contains some hymns not included in Glory to God. Damaged copies have been removed from the pews and are in boxes in the social room. If you would like one, feel free to take it. Some of those hymnals were donated in honor or memory of a loved one. If family members would like to look through and take them, they are welcome to do so.
So we will be singing some of the hymns and songs from Glory to God this Sunday. At the 9:00 service, Sharon Colton and Judy Chapman have prepared a piano-organ duet, which you know will be good. I will be preaching on Mark 9:30-37 and my sermon title is “Little Ones to Him Belong.”
Stay in One Peace,
