Things are starting to wind down. Last week was the last regularly schedule Sunday School program for children and youth, so on this Sunday we will be honoring our Christian Education volunteers at the first service. Leigh Benish will be singing a solo. I will be preaching on John 5:1-9, a very interesting story about Jesus healing a man who was lame. My sermon title is “Stirring Up the Waters.”
Between services we will have a combination pancake breakfast and reception for our volunteers. So come hungry and make a generous donation to help support our high school summer mission trip.
A few weeks ago we had a forum on caring for an aging loved one. There was a good turn out and it is clear that there are a number in our congregation facing these challenges. If you are in that category, you might be interested to know that there will be two free workshops on caring for someone with Alzheimer’s, this coming Monday at the Marion Public Library. The workshops will be at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Space is limited, so if you would like to register call (319) 247-0400 or email email@example.com.
Please don’t forget the Postal Worker’s Food Drive, Saturday, May 11. We are looking for volunteers to help sort and stack the food as it comes in. There will be a sign-up sheet in the social room, or contact Jo Dillon for more information.
Finally, it will soon be our turn to host Family Promise. This is the ministry that provides safe shelter to families who happen to be homeless. They will be arriving on Sunday afternoon, May 19. We need volunteers. There is a sign-up sheet in the social room or contact Sheila Myers if you can help.
Stay in One Peace,
