CHRIST IS RISEN! He is risen, indeed! We continue on into the Easter season celebrating the resurrection of our Lord. In last Sunday’s text the angels asked the women “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” It reminded me of an old Sven and Ole joke:
So Sven was over at Lena and Ole’s for dinner and it is quite late when he decides to go home. He goes out the door and is back in a minute. “Say, Ole, ken ya help me out, here?” He says, “I can’t find my car keys.” “Sure, Sven,” says Ole. “Where de ya tink we should look fer dem?” “Here under the street light.” Sven replies.
So they look for a while and find nothing. Finally Ole says, “Deres nuthin’ here, Sven. Are you sure dis is da place ya dropped dem?” “Oh, no,” says Sven. “I tink I dropped dem up da street by my car.” “Den why are we lookin’ here?” asks Ole. “Oh well, de lights much better here,” says Sven.
Sometimes we are just looking in the wrong place.
This Sunday the right place to be is in worship. The Cherub Choir is singing in the first service. Pastor Beth is preaching on Luke 24:13-35, the story of the appearance of the Risen Christ on the road to Emmaus. Her sermon title is “Believing is Seeing.” In that story the disciples recognize Jesus when he breaks bread with them, so it is fitting that we will be celebrating the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, breaking the bread and sharing the cup. Join us for the feast.
