The hustle and bustle of the holidays is upon us and there is a lot going on. This coming Saturday will be busy. From 9:00 until 2:00 the Alternative Gift Market will be at Prairiewoods (120 Boyson Rd., Hiawatha). This is an opportunity to give the gift of caring to someone. You can contribute to a worthwhile organization in someone’s name as an alternative to buying something they don’t really want or need. At 1:00, the Rockwell Chorus will be performing their Christmas concert in our sanctuary. From 3:00 to 8:00, FPC youth will be offering a parent’s night out. Parents of 4 to 11 year olds can drop of their kids at the church and have some time on their own. Donations will go towards the summer mission trip to Oklahoma. And you are invited to a Pot Bless supper (as opposed to a potLUCK) at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. This is hosted by First Light Christian Fellowship which is a ministry of racial reconciliation. The meal is at 5:00, followed by a worship service at 6:45.
This second Sunday of Advent will be an exciting day as well. We are welcoming new members in the first service and the Chancel Choir is singing. In the second service, we are thrilled to be baptizing two children, Kaydence and Beckett Shadle, the daughter and son of Tyler and Amanda Shadle, grandkids of Vicki and Craig. I will be preaching on Isaiah 11:1-9 and Romans 15:4-13 and the sermon title is “The Wolf and the Lamb.”
We do need some help with the Angels on the Angel Tree with gifts for Marion Cares. There are a lot of items left, and the deadline is Monday the 5th. If you could stop by and take a few it would be greatly appreciated and you would be making Christmas just a little better for some needy person.
