As you may have heard, this is a sad time for FPC Marion. The Rev. Jay Miller passed away yesterday after a battle with cancer. Jay was our pastor emeritus, serving as our pastor for 20 years, from 1973 until 1993. It is hard to imagine FPC without him. He has been a part of our life for 40 years. We will certainly miss his smile, his warm handshake, and his enthusiastic hymn singing.
Visitation will be Friday, August 9th from 3:00 to 7:00 at Murdoch’s Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at 1:00 on Saturday, the 10th here at the church. Please keep Dixie and the entire Miller family in your prayers.
Pastor Nancy is preaching on Sunday. Her text is Matthew 13:1-9 and her sermon title is “Casting Seeds in the Wind.” We are also delighted to have the Cedar Sounds Chorus of the Sweet Adelines bringing us our special music, and Nicole Theis is playing for the offertory.
Finally, what is your passion? Many of us have found all sorts of different activities that we just love to do. For some it is an art or craft: painting, quilting, wood carving, needle work, stained glass, etc. For some it is a special interest: bird watching, genealogy, ham radio, etc. For some it is seeking and finding rare treasures through collecting stamps, coins, antiques, etc. What is it that you like to do? There might be others in our congregation who have found the same thing. There certainly are others who would be interested in what you like to do.
On Sunday, August 25, you will have a chance to share with others your particular passion. Everyone is invited to bring something to show what they have been up to. We will have tables in the Social Hall, and following the service we will have a time for sharing and admiring each other’s skill and accomplishments. If you would like to set up a display contact Bill Cooley.
Stay in One Peace,
