Pastor Beth, Judy and I had a great time last week at Synod School in Storm Lake, IA (which is why you did not get a Weekly Contact last Thursday). I have said it before and I will say it again, YOU really need to go to Synod School. It is a well-run intergenerational camp/retreat/renewal type experience. There is wonderful stuff for everyone from infant to those in their 90’s. Next year’s Synod School will be July 23 – 28, so mark your calendar now and plan on joining us.
School will be starting up in a few weeks, so last Sunday we made an appeal to provide backpacks for Marion Cares. I am delighted to say many of you have responded, and even with short notice we are in good shape. We can always use school supplies, or if you want to make a cash donation that is always appreciated.
Also, with school starting up we are winding down our summer Feeding Lunch to Youth (FLY) program. We are losing some volunteers over the next two weeks due to some being teachers and college kids and they need to be getting back. We do need help on Presbyterian Wednesdays, but if you could donate a few hours on any day, we could use you.
This Sunday we will be gathering at the table for the Lord’s Supper, which always makes it special. We have a ladies quartet from the Cedar Valley Sounds Sweet Adelines chorus, which will be a treat. I am preaching on Genesis 15:1-6 and Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16. My sermon title is “Waiting for God.”
Stay in One Peace,
