Rev. Howard Chapman
Howard Chapman has been the pastor of First Presbyterian Church since December 1994.
His office is located in the northwest corner of the lower level of the church. His usual office hours are Tuesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Biographical Data
- Born in Rochester, New York, he grew up in Sierra Leone, West Africa, where his parents were missionaries.
- He did his undergraduate study at Houghton College, in Houghton, New York, and received his Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. In 2005 he received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
- In between college and seminary he worked for five years for a printing company in Rochester.
- First Presbyterian is his second call. Prior to coming to Marion he served for nine years as the associate pastor of Webster Presbyterian Church in Webster, New York.
- He is married to Judy, and they have three sons, David, Jonathan, and Alex.
Primary Responsibilities
- Worship leadership -- including preaching, working with the music staff and worship teams in coordinating worship, administering the sacraments, and conducting weddings and funerals.
- Administration -- overseeing a paid staff of eight full- and part-time employees and a large volunteer staff, providing pastoral leadership for the numerous church committees and teams, and working with the Session to ensure the effective functioning of the church program.
- Pastoral Care -- counseling, nurturing the fellowship of the congregation, and responding as needed to people in time of crisis.
Preaching
Howard has a comfortable preaching style weaving together teaching and storytelling. He believes that the preacher's role is proclamation of the good news, the gospel of Jesus Christ. Therefore he deliberately uses a positive, celebrative emphasis in his sermons. Listed below are some samples of his sermons. He would welcome any feedback you would care to offer.

 Office Manager Karen Greene has been at First Presbyterian Church since 1985. In addition to normal secretarial and receptionist responsibilities, Karen manages the membership database and assists the various committees and organizations of the church. She is very knowledgeable of all that goes on in the life of our faith community, and is always willing to help. She and her husband are members of Echo Hill Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.  Barb Bjork has been the Financial Secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Marion since August 1997. She tracks contributions and keeps the financial records of the church up to date. Barb and her husband are members of First Presbyterian in Mount Vernon.
Judy Chapman
 Judy Chapman, First Presbyterian Church organist since December 2002, received her BA in English from Houghton College and completed a major in Pipe Organ at Coe College in 2003. She has been actively involved in the musical life of the church and community as an accompanist and soloist, where she is equally comfortable with traditional and contemporary music. Judy has studied piano with teachers in New York and at Coe College.
Judy is employed by Graceland University as an administrative assistant for Graceland's graduate programs in Eastern Iowa in collaboration with Grant Wood AEA
